In Wisconsin, talking on a cell phone IN ANY MANNER (i.e. speaker, hands free, HELD UP TO THE SIDE OF YOUR STUPID HEAD) is LEGAL. 100%. Talk away, people. Texting, however, is ILLEGAL.
(disregard the date on the screenshot, I haven’t had time to change it)

Florida is basically the same. Texting is a secondary offsense so you have to mess up something else before they can get you for texting as well

I love scaring the shit out of people who drive past me while texting. If I see them doing it as they go past, I’ll give them a quick horn blast.

According to what I saw the other day in NJ, apparently it’s okay to text and drive too. I can never keep track of these laws these days.

From the WISDOT’s website:
• Cell phone law can be primary enforcement (the only reason for the stop) but often will be secondary, when the driver is stopped for another violation.

I need a louder horn. Mine didn’t work to cease the texting lady that almost side swiped me.

I just assume if it’s causing a driver to nearly kill me, it must be illegal.

NY state, it is NOT okay to do anything holding your phone. At least in Western-NY state, ask my wife how she found out, it’s a $100 ticket, and also comes with a $80 surcharge. For a total $180 ticket for your taxed crime.

Do what I did with my old Miata - go to a scrap yard and find a Cadillac or other giant land barge, and retrieve the horn. Then it’s as simple as plug and play as long as you’re going one tone->one tone.

I love the Hella Supertones I put on my BRZ. I think I’m going to put them on my motorcycle, too, for the same reason.

The kicker to this whole thing is JUST LAST NIGHT after work I installed an aftermarket Bluetooth adapter into my car. So even if the law changes I’m good to go. Not so much the newer Explorer (that probably HAD factory BT) that I had an issue with.

Same thing in Michigan.
I believe we can text at a full stop, for example, waiting at a red light.
I had a guy LOSE HIS SHIT on me once. So we’re stopped at a red light and I’m checking a voicemail, not even communicating. Phone to ear. Remember, legal in Michigan.
He’s waving his arms out the window, screaming, turning around to yell at me to hang up my phone, etc. Even tried to flag down a cop (who obviously didn’t give a crap about the non law breaker he was being called to arrest, yes, arrest is what the guy wanted).
Now the awkward part is, the voicemail has ended and he’s still about to burst a blood vessel in front of me and I’m stuck there not wanting him to think I hung up because some maniac in front of me lost it.
Hell yeah I faked that conversation and kept the phone to my ear until he finally turned away from me.

Cop agreed there’s a big grey area, since there’s no real way to tell WHAT they’re doing with their phone, IF that’s even what they’re looking down at.

I live in Wisconsin and see plenty of people texting and talking on the phone while driving. I was actually under the impression that talking on the phone was illegal as well as texting.
Oh well, it almost always results in the person not paying a lick of attention to driving (now we’re going 45, now 65, now 45) so I’ll still be shaking my head disapprovingly when I pass them.

See? So was I. The law states:
• Using a cell phone while driving is against the law in Wisconsin for any driver with a probationary license or instruction permit, except to report an emergency.
Should be EVERY motherfucker out there.

For real, the most extreme I saw was on 51 headed north past a Chevy dealership. Line of cars was stopped as someone was making a turn left across traffic and waiting for an opening. Lady in front of me is chatting away or texting on the phone and I can tell she hasn’t noticed what’s going on ahead of her. I slowed way down to avoid any flying debris. A second later she must have noticed, locks up the brakes and slides towards the ditch. Somehow she managed to avoid hitting anything but I was pretty sure I was about to watch someone die.
